Could Your Next Newsletter Be Powered by Google Drive? PLUS Insights into Funding Models for News in Southeast Asia
Right now, it's only an R&D project, but Google's internal R&D division, is trialling a feature in which you could publish a Google Drive file as a blog post or a newsletter. That's an interesting move that begins to treat Google Drive as a CMS.
In the past year, news organisations took a hit around the world as advertising collapsed in 2020 (although it has since recovered). New research in southeast Asia looks at how news groups there found funding. The research looks at what the industry needs to do for long-term sustainability.
The Guardian is joining other major newspapers, including the Telegraph and News UK, in not reporting their print circulation. Print circulation is less than half what it was a decade ago, and the publisher (and my former employer a few lifetimes ago) wants to focus on its broader digital reach of about 3.5 m.
